SAXON RIVER SALMON FISHING

The beautiful Säveån river flows through smiling natural areas and lovely stretches of stream, and flows into the Göta River at Gothenburg harbor. The river offers fishing for both salmon and trout. Annual catches of salmon normally vary between 50 and 100 individuals, depending on water flow and weather conditions, and the average weight is over 5 kg. Salmon fishing is managed by Sportfiskarna.

About the säveå salmon:

The large salmon in Säveån is one of the few remaining genuine salmon stocks. Every year, salmon weighing over 10 kg are caught. On May 30, 2005, the current salmon record of 17.642 kg was set by fly fisherman Micael Ingvarsson from Jonsered. The catch is on display as a cast at the regional office of the Swedish Anglers' Association. The largest known salmon in modern times from the river weighed 24.5 kg and was found stranded in the 1970s.
