Description:

In the middle of central Gothenburg you can do some exciting fishing in an urban environment. At the annual Vallgravsmetet, almost 20 different species of fish have been caught over the years, which shows a great diversity of species. Well-known fishing spots in Gothenburg's canals and Vallgraven are at Fiskekyrkan, Trädgårdsföreningen, Slussen and Lejontrappan at Brunnsparken. At Rosenlund and Stora Hamnkanalen there are sometimes plenty of roach and perch. Perch of over 1.5 kilos have been caught and the best perch fishing is when they enter the canal system from the river to hunt prey fish. This is usually during spring and fall. Fishing in the canal system is generally best at low water temperatures. A common species in recent times that is now numerous throughout the Gothenburg harbor area and canals is the blackmouth butterfly. It is a so-called alien invasive species that should be killed when caught.
